The 26th Annual Moparfest is
now in the books for another year. Saturday’s weather did not
co-operate with the weather forecast and dawned gloomy, damp and
drizzly. It looked like rain any minute but nothing major
occurred. The show cars came but spectators attendance was less
than usual for Saturday.
Sunday was a different story. Beautiful sun with wispy clouds
and a lovely cool breeze more than made up for the pervious day.
The show cars lined up early, from the show car gate, up Bleams
Rd. out Peel St. and onto Highway 7&8.
The grounds filled up quickly, vendors overflowed the Vendor
Field, heads bobbed up and down the field, between the cars,
through the Vendors area, enjoying the stage entertainment,
crowding the food booths and the children frolicked in the
kiddie midway.
Jerry Hall brought his 1970 Plymouth Super Bird 1000 miles for
Wetumpka Alabama, Grant Elliot brought his 1967 Plymouth Cuda
2150 miles from Lacombe Alberta. Venders came from Port
Charlotte, Florida, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Seattle, Washington
and in Canada vendors came from Grand Falls, New Brunswick,
Northern and Eastern Ontario.
There were very unique cars showcased in the arena such as a
1950 Chrysler Newport Town and Country (woody) built for George
Warner of Warner Brothers Studio. A very beautiful, all original
1964 Dodge Custom 880 owned by Howard Weber of Waterloo was
judged to be winner of the Preservation Award, Best Original
Car.
Over 1300 cars from 1918 to 2006 and 14,000 spectators were not
the only people benefiting from the show. The participating
service clubs, charities and community organizations will
receive funds raised through Moparfest.
